I wanted a quick gift idea that I could give to neighbors and friends. Something nice and meaningful, but that didn't take too much time. This Crochet Santa Hat Jar Topper was perfect and I think they are going to like them. Because who doesn't like chocolate and a crocheted Santa Hat??

This post contains affiliate links. That means I make a small percentage if you buy from the links I share at no cost to you!

This little hat sits on the top of a mason jar filled with whatever you want. I went some Lindt truffles because I like the color. And chocolate. Add a cute gift tag and you have a perfect gift! This hat fit both a quart and a pint jar. I saw some really cute jars that seemed a similar size at Hobby Lobby as well so it is really versatile!

    You will need:
Small amount of Red size 4 worsted weight yarn (about 40g)
    Small amount of white yarn
pom pom maker (I used the yellow one)
    needle for weaving in ends
    3.75 hook

(Use the 3.75 hook and red yarn.)
At the end of each round you will chain 2. It does not count as a stitch. Fasten to the first stitch with a slip stitch at the end of each row.
    With Green:
Round 1: In a magic circle crochet 10 DC.
Round 2: DC in each around. (10)
Round 3: DC in the first, INC in the next. Repeat around. (15)
Round 4: DC in each around. (15)
Round 5: DC in the first 2, INC in the next. Repeat around. (20)
Round 6: DC in each around. (20)
Round 7:  DC in the first 3, INC in the next. Repeat around. (25)
Round 8: DC in each around. (25)
Round 9: DC in the first 4, INC in the next. Repeat around. (30)
Round 10: DC in the first 5, INC in the next. Repeat around. (35)
Round 11: DC in the first 6, INC in the  next. Repeat around. (40)
Round 12: DC in the first 7, INC in the next. Repeat around. (45)
Rounds 13-18: DC in each around.
    Change to red.
Round 19: DC in each around. (50)
Round 20-21: Front post double crochet (FPDC) around the first stitch. Back post double crochet(BPDC) in the next. Alternate to the end of the row.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Attach a fluffy pom pom to the top.

And be sure to check out the Friendly Santa if you want to make another hat, but this time put it on a cute doll!
