Free Crochet Monkey Hat Pattern

This free crochet monkey hat pattern is perfect for the little monkey in your life. Made with sweet little ears, a sweet little expression, and those fun tassels. I call my boys monkeys at least once a day and think there just may be some other little monkey children there! This hat comes in toddler, child and teen/adult size. So no matter how old your little monkey is (or if you are one yourself!) your head is covered.

Start with my pattern for a

The Face
Use a 4.5 or 5.0 hook. If you crochet very loose, I recommend using the smaller hook.
Row 1: Chain 24
Row 2: In the second chain from the hook, HDC. HDC in each stitch across. Chain 1 and turn. (23 HDC)
Row 3: HDC in each stitch across. Chain 1 and turn. (23 HDC)
Row 4: HDC in each stitch across. Chain 1 and turn. (23 HDC)

Row 5: HDC, DC in the next 3, TRC, 3 TRC in same stitch,
TRC, DC in the next 3, HDC, SC, HDC, DC in the next three, TRC, 3 TRC in
the same stitch, TRC, DC in the next 3, HDC. Chain 1 and turn. (27)

Row 6: DEC HDC, DC in the next 4, 3 DC in the same stitch, DC in the next
3, HDC, SC in the next 5, HDC,  DC in the next 3, 3 DC in the same
stitch, DC in the next 4,  DEC HDC. Chain 1 and turn. (29)

Row 7: DEC HDC. HDC in the next 11 SC, SLST, SC. HDC in the next 11. DEC HDC. (27)

Now single crochet around the piece for the toddler size. HDC for the
child and adult size. Remember to crochet two stitches as you turn corners.
(I didn’t go around the top, just the sides and bottom to clean up the edges.)
Leave an extra long tail to sew on to the hat.

Eyes
10 HDC in a magic circle, slip stitch to the
first stitch. Fasten off and leave a long tail to sew on. With scrap
yarn sew on a little reflection spot.

For Eye Lashes Only
In
black, chain the length you desire (I usually go about 10 chains).
Position on the hat and sew on. Every other stitch make a small lash by
coming up in the desired spot and then sewing down on to the chains.

Nose
12 DC in a magic circle. I stretched the nose horizontally and sewed it on.

Ears
With brown:
Row 1: 7 DC in a Magic circle. Chain 2, and turn. (7)
Row 2: DC increase in each around. Chain 2, and turn. (14)
Row 3: DC in first, DC INC in next. Repeat around. Chain 2, and turn. (21)
Row 4: DC in each across. Chain 2, and turn. (21)
Row 5: HDC in each across.(21)
Fasten off and leave a long tail to sew on the hat.

With tan:
Row 1: 7 DC in a Magic circle. Chain 2, and turn. (7)
Row 2: DC increase in each around. Chain 2, and turn. (14)
Row 3: DC in first, DC INC in next. Repeat around. Chain 2, and turn. (21)
Fasten off and weave in ends. Using the long tail from the brown part of the ear, sew on the inside of the ear.

Add the tassels and you have yourself a cute monkey hat!
